    Women's Luncheon

    Apr 14, 11:30 AM - 01:30 PM (MT)
Please join us on Tuesday, April 14th, for lunch and a fireside chat with Sippy Chhina, a highly accomplished finance professional and independent board director. REGISTER HERE Originally from India, Sippy sought greater professional opportunity and personal independence than was available to her at the time. When the opportunity arose to move to Canada through marriage to the son of a family friend, she embraced it as a chance to pursue her ambitions and shape her own career path. Arriving in Calgary in 1985 with a one‑way ticket and $100, she was optimistic about the possibilities ahead—only to learn that building a career still required navigating established norms and expectations, even in a country known for opportunity. Determined to succeed, Sippy steadily built her expertise and took on increasingly senior roles, ultimately becoming a Partner at Deloitte. Today, she serves as an independent board director for Ovintiv, Rockpoint Gas Storage, and Trans Mountain. At the 2nd Annual Women’s Luncheon, Sippy will share her personal journey, discuss how women can cultivate confidence throughout their careers, and reflect on navigating non‑linear career paths—particularly the challenges and trade‑offs many working mothers experience as priorities evolve over time. Agenda: 11:30-12:00 - Arrival & Buffet Lunch 12:00 - 1:00 - Fireside chat 1:00 - 1:30 - Networking The session will conclude with time for audience questions and discussion. This event supports the development of female finance professionals, and all genders are welcome and encouraged to attend. Lunch and non-alcoholic beverages provided. Optimizing Investment Committees

    Apr 14, 06:30 PM - 10:00 PM (CET)
Investment Committees are key decision-making bodies within investment management firms, banks, financial institutions, insurance companies, and other institutional investors. They play a central role in the allocation, management, and oversight of capital. The decisions taken by Investment Committees directly influence portfolio allocation, security selection, risk exposure, and ultimately the investment performance delivered to clients and beneficiaries. Given their strategic importance, the quality of governance, information flow, and deliberation processes within these committees is critical. During this session, Marc Fohr, CFA, will explore common pitfalls in committee composition and dynamics, including governance challenges, cognitive biases, and information asymmetries. The presentation will also propose practical remedies to strengthen analytical frameworks and improve the quality of information assessment.  Additionnally, participants will be introduced to a practical toolbox designed to enhance structure, clarity, and effectiveness in collective investment decision-making. This session aims to provide practical guidelines and actionable insights to enhance the functioning of Investment Committees, with the objective of fostering more robust, disciplined, and successful investment decisions. The presentation will be followed by a networkig cocktail.

    Apr 16, 06:30 PM - 08:30 PM (CT)
This is a members only event! We’re excited to dive into our next book club selection: The Price of Time: The Real Story of Interest by Edward Chancellor. In this deeply researched and engaging book, Chancellor explores the history and meaning of interest rates—and why the price of time is one of the most powerful forces shaping economies, markets, and investment outcomes. From ancient civilizations to modern central banking, he traces how artificially low rates distort capital allocation, fuel bubbles, and ultimately undermine long‑term prosperity. This book will spark engaging discussions on monetary policy, the role of interest rates in valuation, and what today’s rate environment means for investors thinking about risk, return, and time horizons. Happy reading, and we look forward to seeing you at the book club! CFA Houston members, click MORE INFORMATION to register!
