How Short Sellers Find Their Ideas: Fraud Detection or Market Interpretation?

    May 4, 07:00 PM - 09:00 PM (FR)
Join us for an exclusive talk with Soren Aandahl, Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Blue Orca Capital, one of the world’s leading activist short-selling firms. Over the past 15 years, Soren has built a strong reputation for uncovering corporate frauds, financial misrepresentations, and structurally flawed business models across global markets. Despite the presence of regulators, auditors, and analysts, significant frauds can persist for years. In this context, short sellers play a controversial yet critical role, often acting as a last line of defense in identifying inconsistencies and exposing wrongdoing. Are short sellers essential watchdogs of financial markets, or destabilizing forces? During this session, Soren will share his perspective on: • The role of short sellers in modern markets • How to identify companies that may be “too good to be true” • His investigative approach to short investing • The challenges surrounding activist short selling Drawing on real case studies, this session will offer practical insights into one of the most debated strategies in finance. A networking cocktail will follow the Q&A session. This event will be held in English but questions in French will be more than welcome.

    Luncheon with Dimensional

    May 6, 11:30 AM - 01:00 PM (CT)
Widely dismissed early on as a path to mediocrity, index or ‘passive’ investing has been widely adopted by investors; that said, index-tracking managers make active decisions that can lead to unintended consequences and opportunity costs that are seldom discussed, or even considered. Join us for a great networking and educational luncheon featuring Rob Harvey, CFA, of Dimensional as he leads us into a discussion that evaluates the impact of many of these decisions, addressing the total costs of adhering to the strict framework that characterizes most benchmarks. Suburban Luncheon: Rethinking Credit Allocations: Building More Resilient Portfolios in Public Mark

    May 6, 11:30 AM - 01:30 PM (ET)
Correlations can shift across market regimes, and traditional fixed income diversification may prove less reliable amid heightened geopolitical uncertainty and volatility. As most allocators base their view on public credit exposures driven largely by spreads, they may be overlooking a broader and growing opportunity set beyond traditional bonds that are not “priced to perfection.” Join the Artisan Credit and EMsights teams for a discussion on idiosyncratic strategies across primarily US public below–investment-grade credit and global debt seeking to deliver low correlation and compelling risk-adjusted returns relative to broad market indices and risks.      Michael Fontaine is a director of Artisan Partners with responsibility for distribution and servicing of the strategies managed by the firm’s Credit team. He is also responsible for creation of the team’s investment content and communications. Prior to joining Artisan Partners, Mr. Fontaine was a principal with Third Street Partners. Before that, he was a director and co-portfolio manager with Willis Towers Watson. Earlier in his career, Mr. Fontaine was an analyst with Wells, Canning & Associates. Mr. Fontaine holds a bachelor’s degree in finance with a minor in economics from Iona College.      Jack Powers, CFA, is a portfolio specialist with responsibility for communication with investors and creation of investment content as well as distribution and servicing of the strategies managed by the firm’s EMsights Capital Group. Prior to joining Artisan Partners in October 2025, he served as vice president and portfolio specialist on the municipal bond product and portfolio strategy team at Eaton Vance. Before that, Mr. Powers held roles as an internal consultant for the banks and independents channel and as a mutual fund services representative at Eaton Vance. VIRTUAL: Using Agentic AI to Reshape Data Engineering, Governance, and Access in Finance

    May 6, 12:00 PM - 01:00 PM (PT)
Financial institutions sit on vast, complex data ecosystems — spanning risk models, regulatory reporting, client analytics, and market intelligence — yet most still rely on brittle, manually maintained pipelines and fragmented governance frameworks to manage them. Brighthive and its agentic platform, BrightAgent, represent a fundamental shift: purpose-built AI agents that autonomously discover, catalog, govern, and transform data without it ever leaving your environment. Rather than asking analysts and engineers to wrangle infrastructure, agentic AI handles the toil — profiling data quality, enforcing policy-as-code governance, resolving lineage across warehouses and lakes, and delivering trusted, query-ready datasets to the people who need them. For finance, the implications are profound: compliance teams get real-time visibility into how sensitive data flows and who accesses it; portfolio managers and quants get faster, self-service access to governed data without filing tickets; and data engineering teams shift from reactive firefighting to strategic enablement. This is the trajectory of agentic finance workflows — not a single monolithic AI, but a coordinated team of specialized agents that continuously maintain the data foundation your firm's decisions depend on. Navigating a Changing World: The New Geopolitics of Energy with David Pike

    May 12, 05:00 PM - 07:30 PM (PT)
The world is transfixed by the ructions of the global geopolitical order – the sudden collapse of the postwar rules-based order and its apparent replacement with a harsher world based on brute power and conflict. Much less attention is paid to the reasons for these changes. In this talk tailored to the financial community, journalist and editor David Pike will explain the economic and geopolitical drivers reshaping the global order and how they fit together, with specific focus on energy, his area of specialization. Speaker  Bio : David   Pike  is one of the world’s leading energy journalists, with four decades of experience spanning the oil, gas, renewables and nuclear industries. He was until recently editor-in-chief of Energy Intelligence, one of the world’s leading independent publishers of energy news, research and data. He ran a team of 70 journalists and research analysts across the world, with bureaus in Singapore, Moscow, Dubai, Beirut, London, New York, Washington, DC, and Houston. David  began his career as a reporter in the Middle East in the late 1980s, before specializing in energy 30 years ago. As a reporter and editor, he has covered major global events from the Palestinian intifadah to wars in the Gulf and week-long Opec meetings. He has actively followed the low-carbon transition since leading the expansion of Energy Intelligence into renewable energy and carbon markets 12 years ago. David  previously worked for Argus Media and the Middle East Economic Digest. He holds a BA in politics and history from the University of Manchester and an MA in Middle East politics from the University of Exeter, both in the UK. Click here to register.

VIRTUAL: CFA Society Seattle Book Club: The Philosopher in the Valley: Alex Karp, Palantir, and the

    May 12, 06:00 PM - 07:00 PM (PT)
Please join us as we discuss The Philosopher in the Valley: Alex Karp, Palantir, and the Rise of the Surveillance State by Michael Steinberger on 5/12/2026 at 6PM PST via Zoom. In The Philosopher in the Valley , author Michael Steinberger brings a journalist’s investigative approach to the intersection of technology, power, and political philosophy, using the story of Palantir Technologies and its CEO Alex Karp to explore the broader implications of data-driven governance in the twenty-first century. Steinberger reviews Palantir Technologies, a company that has become a key provider of data-analysis software to governments and large organizations. The book traces Palantir’s origins in the post-9/11 security environment and its growth into a major defense- and intelligence-focused technology firm whose platforms integrate vast datasets to help users detect patterns, make decisions, and manage complex operations. The author also profiles Palantir’s CEO, Alex Karp, as an outspoken Silicon Valley leader—a philosophically trained executive who frames Palantir’s mission in geopolitical and moral terms, arguing that advanced data tools are essential for liberal democracies competing with authoritarian rivals. At the same time, the book explores controversies surrounding Palantir’s work with law enforcement, intelligence agencies, and immigration authorities, highlighting broader debates about privacy, civil liberties, and the expanding role of data analytics in government. For investors and policy observers, the story illustrates the growing convergence of Silicon Valley technology, artificial intelligence, and national security. REGISTER
