Emerging Markets in a New World Order

    May 15, 06:30 PM - 09:30 PM (BE)

During the past five- and ten-years emerging markets have significantly underperformed developed equities, with emerging bonds remaining a little-known asset class. Enterprising investors are now faced with a number of key questions:

    • Will current geopolitical shifts be a catalyst for a rerating of emerging stocks?
    • How about the impact of tariffs and reshoring?
    • Will markets benefit from growing demand for commodities for the energy transition?
    • With Chinese stocks 25% of the index, what is the outlook for this important, tech-heavy component?
    • What diversification and return-enhancement opportunities do local and hard currency emerging debt offer today?

At this event, we will be joined by Jan de Bruijn from Robeco on Emerging Market Equities, as well as our fellow Charterholder Hicham Sabra, CFA on Emerging Market Fixed Income.

Speaker: Jan de Bruijn - Robeco

Jan de Bruijn joined Robeco in 2018 and is the Client Portfolio Manager for the Emerging Markets Equity team. He has over 30 years’ investment experience with a focus on emerging markets and Asian equities. Before joining Robeco, Jan co-founded Sephira EM Asia LLP, an Emerging Asia equity fund. Prior to this, he has been the head of the GEM team at Mackenzie Investments (Singapore), the Head of Asian equities at Lion Global Investments (Singapore) and had several roles as the lead portfolio manager of Asian related funds for Gartmore, Threadneedle, Scottish Widows Investment Partnership and Shell Pension Fund. Jan holds a BSc (Hons) in Economics from the University of Surrey, holds the ASIP designation (UK CFA Qualification) and is a member of the CFA institute.

This high-level seminar, will explore the role that financial services and investment management should play in providing individuals with the products they need, the impact of inclusive policies on financial stability, market performance and investor confidence, and offer industry solutions such as the CFA Institute Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Code, Europe.

    Impossible negotiations with Chris Lemke

    Aug 28, 04:00 PM - 08:30 PM (BE)
    The concept

Life is a series of negotiations. Often it seems impossible to reach an agreement. This session summarizes advice from some of the leading experts and invites you to try out and expand your negotiation skills at the same time.

    How it works:
The first thing we do is put our brains together and collect everything we as a group know about successful negotiations. Then we challenge those rules and principles by testing their limits. In pair work and group scenarios participants gain practical experience and increase awareness regarding what works – and what does not.

    What’s different

We constantly switch between theory and practice, so you can experiment with different concepts and learn from experience. You experience negotiation situations as complex person-to-person interactions and are sure to walk away eager to apply your skills in real life.
    Who is Chris Lemke?
He is a trilingual Learning Professional based in Luxembourg, with 30 years of experience and a proven track record across industry, academia, and consulting.
He has observed that while technical skills often get people hired, it is the so-called soft skills that determine whether they are promoted, sidelined, or even dismissed.
He firmly believes that people skills and managerial skills are both learnable and teachable. His passion lies in making breakthrough learning happen through engaging training sessions and professional coaching.

As an active member of the Board of CFA Society Luxembourg for over 12 years, he has had the opportunity to design and deliver interactive learning events for members and candidates of around a dozen different CFA Societies to date.

Business simulation competition with Chris Lemke

    Sep 23, 04:00 PM - 08:30 PM (BE)

    The concept

Participating in a realistic business simulation, in direct competition with other teams in the same room, is one of the most exciting and insightful ways to learn about business and management. The simulation runs over several rounds, requiring tough decisions and providing immediate feedback at each stage.

    How it works

The simulation throws you in at the deep end, providing a complex situation and requiring decisions under uncertainty. Each of you has a particular role in the management team, and together you will succeed or fail, based on a set of clearly defined metrics. A rigorous debriefing ensures that we capture the learnings.

    What’s different

We play a world-class simulation that is run at leading business schools, and take time to debrief what happens in each round. Like in a flight simulator, you get to try out your skills and instincts, and nobody gets hurt. The experience is fun and engaging, but the insights are real.
