Outline
Japan Public and Private Working Group on Financed Emissions to Promote Transition Finance, under the Ministry of Economic Trade Industry (METI), published the position paper "Addressing the Challenges of Financed Emissions" in October 2023.
https://www.meti.go.jp/press/2023/10/20231002002/20231002002-2rr.pdf
(Which is co-worked with FSA and MoE. https://www.fsa.go.jp/news/r5/singi/20231002_2.html )
It aims to encourage the consideration of the consequences of the disclosure of the "financed emissions".
ISSB published the IFRS S1 & S2 standards in June, which call for financial institutions to disclose their Scope 3 GHG emissions, including Category 15 or "financed emissions." However, disclosure practices around "financed emissions" are still in their infancy. We invite key stakeholders to share insights on how to develop a common understanding of decision-useful information for the said Category hopefully by 2024, when disclosure practices are expected to pick up.
In this webinar, Ms. Ishikawa (METI) will make a presentation about the whole initiative of transition finance in Japan, followed by an explanation about this position paper. Then, invite some panellists from this committee members to discuss the issue and what we must consider.
