CFA Society Japan, Career Event #1 with Mr. Kazuhiko Shiotani CFA
On 13th July, we hosted our very first Career Event. We had the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Kazuhiko Shiotani, CFA, Partner at SEIRYU Asset Management who shared a very inspiring story about his career journey. Prior to joining SEIRYU Asset Management, Mr. Shiotani spent over 18 years at Salomon Brothers (currently Citigroup) in various fixed income positions in New York and Tokyo. Mr. Shiotani also headed the Asia business for Financial Security Assurance (currently Assured Guaranty Ltd.),
where he contributed to building the Japanese municipal bond and Asian ABS credit portfolios. From 2010 to 2015, Mr. Shiotani headed Tradeweb Markets Japan where he contributed to building and expanding the JGB/Yen IRS electronic trading platforms.
Having earned the CFA designation, Mr. Shiotani also shared how the qualification helped him throughout his career, especially as he moved to a buyside firm. Mr. Yamagata, CFA from CFA Society Japan’s membership committee moderated the Q&A session. Mr. Yamagata’s questions focused on Mr. Shiotani’s experience working abroad in New York; a well-timed topic as local CFA society Japan members are looking to enrich and expand their careers on a global landscape. We were pleased to receive numerous questions from participants relating to career advice and we were delighted to see so much engagement with society members. Attendees enjoyed a short networking session after the event.
We are looking to host more Career Events in the upcoming terms. The primary objective of these events is to assist society members and candidates in achieving their career goals. We believe that the career stories of speakers such as Mr. Shiotani will provide valuable information towards members who look for guidance in making informed decisions about their next career moves. We also invite attendees to use these events as networking opportunities to connect with society members. We look forward to seeing you at our next Career Event.

日本CFA協会、塩谷和彦氏（CFA）を迎えてのキャリアイベント第一弾
7月13日、第1回目のキャリアイベントを開催しました。今回は、塩谷和彦氏（CFA、セイリュウ・アセット・マネジメント パートナー）をお迎えし、塩谷氏のキャリアについて、大変刺激的なお話を伺いました。塩谷氏は、セイリュウ・アセット・マネジメントに入社する以前は、ソロモン・ブラザーズ（現シティグループ）で18年以上にわたり、ニューヨークと東京で様々な債券業務に携わりました。
また、ファイナンシャル・セキュリティ・アシュアランス社（現アシュアード・ギャランティ社）ではアジア事業の責任者を務め、日本の地方債やアジアのABSのクレジット・ポートフォリオの構築に貢献しました。 2010年から2015年までトレードウェブ・マーケッツ・ジャパンの代表を務め、日本国債・円のIRS電子取引プラットフォームの構築・拡大に貢献されました。
CFA資格を取得した塩谷氏は、キャリアを通じて、特にバイサイド企業に転職した際に、この資格がどのように役立ったかについてお話しいただきました。質疑応答では、日本CFA協会メンバーシップコミッティメンバーの山形氏（CFA）がモデレーターを務めました。山形氏の質問は、塩谷氏のニューヨークでの海外勤務経験に焦点を当てたもので、CFAソサエティ・ジャパンの会員がグローバルな視野でキャリアの充実と拡大を目指す中、時宜を得たトピックでした。参加者からは、キャリア・アドバイスに関する多くの質問が寄せられ、ソサエティ・メンバーとの交流が深まったことを嬉しく思います。
参加者はイベント終了後、短いネットワーキング・セッションを楽しみました。 今後もキャリア・イベントを開催する予定です。これらのイベントの主な目的は、会員や受験者の皆様がキャリア目標を達成するのを支援することです。塩谷氏のような講演者のキャリアストーリーは、次のキャリアについて十分な情報を得て決断するための指針を求める会員方にとって、貴重な情報を提供するものと確信しています。また、参加者の皆様には、会員間のネットワーキングの機会としてもご活用いただければ幸いです。次回のキャリアイベントへのご参加をお待ちしております。
