    What you should know about Social Bonds and the Towards Sustainability Label

    Columbia Threadneedle Investments brought social investment into the mainstream by launching in 2013 the first Social Bond Fund in the industry. Tammie Tang, lead Portfolio Manager for the Social Bond Strategies (UK, European and Global), will discuss how these strategies achieve against their twin objectives of financial returns and social impact, what the future may look like for social investing and the importance and benefits of being awarded the Towards Sustainability Label.

    Tom Van den Berghe will discuss following aspects of the Towards Sustainability Label label:

    • The reasons for the creation of the label and its added value within European sustainable finance legislation
    • The evolution of the label's criteria
    • The label in figures and comparison with other labels
    • Future perspectives

    Speakers: 

    Tom Van den Berghe is managing director of the Towards Sustainability Labelling Agency which manages the Towards Sustainability label for sustainable investment funds. The Towards Sustainability label was launched end 2019 and has since become the most comprehensive sustainability label in Europe, with 800 labelled products managed by about 100 managers from 10 countries, and representing 550 billion EUR.
    In addition, Tom is also director sustainable finance at the Federation of the Belgian financial sector, Febelfin.


    Tammie Tang is a senior portfolio manager in the Fixed Income team with a focus on investment grade credit, having joined the company in 2012. She is lead portfolio manager for Columbia Threadneedle’s UK, European and global social bond strategies, as well as various institutional UK credit strategies and the Threadneedle Pensions Corporate Bond Fund. 

    Tammie holds a Master of Statistics from the University of New South Wales and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries Australia. She is also a trustee for the Columbia Threadneedle Foundation where we work closely with long-term charity partners to drive social change.

    Raymond van Es

    Trained in aerospace technology at the University of Technology in Delft, Raymond worked for five years in the aerospace industry and two years in the rubber industry. After graduating from his MBA at IMD in Lausanne (Switzerland), he started working at AEGON (a global insurance company) where he held several senior management positions in Marketing, Sales and Innovation. He also holds several Board Member positions in start-up companies. In 2014 he cofounded two award winning companies in car insurance and telematics. In 2016 he cofounded a data science consultancy company. In 2020 he moved with his team to Milliman where he supports clients in becoming more data driven and to generate business value by applying machine learning and AI techniques.

    Sijbo Holtman

    Sijbo is experienced in the domain of Balance Sheet Management and Risk Management within the insurance industry. He worked as expert and manager at large Dutch insurers on topics like Asset-Liability Management, Hedging, Liquidity Management, Risk and Capital Modelling and valuations. Recently Sijbo joined Milliman supporting clients across the Benelux.
