Social Hour Event with AQR Capital Management

On Wednesday, May 17, we heard from AQR Capital Management's own Peter Hecht, Ph.D., Managing Director, on "Investing Amid Low Expected Returns." Our members learned about today's unique environment of record-low future expected returns and how to continue investing wisely amid these hard circumstances. Pete provided a backdrop for the ingredients underlying an effective portfolio and a discussion of many of today’s most prominent investment topics amidst the low expected return environment, such as illiquid investments, market timing, and factor investing. He concluded by reviewing how to utilize portfolio construction, risk management, and cost control practices to build a portfolio that can succeed in the challenging market environment.

2023 Forecast Dinner

Our 19th Annual Forecast was held Thursday, February 23, 2023, at the Country Club of Jackson. This Forecast Dinner featured panelists Steven Scruggs, CFA (FPA Queens Road Small Cap Value Fund), Nick Goetze (Raymond James), and Jared Dillian (Editor, The Daily Dirtnap) with Philip Cichlar (Jane Street) as Moderator.

2022 Ethics Challenge

On November 17, 2022, students from four local colleges (Millsaps, Mississippi College, Jackson State University, and Louisiana Tech University) competed in our annual Ethics Challenge by presenting their unique solutions to complex ethical dilemmas. All participating teams displayed great enthusiasm and put forth tremendous effort into each of their final presentations. It's always a true honor to host such great minds and meet the very individuals representing the future of the finance industry!

2022 Charter Recognition Ceremony

On September 22, 2022, CFA Society Mississippi gathered at the AC Hotel by Marriot in Ridgeland, MS, to recognize and celebrate our newest CFA charterholders. These individuals include Austin Mills, CFA, Ming Ju, CFA, Jack Heidelberg, CFA (all pictured above), Joshua Norris, CPA, CFP, CFA, and Daniel Drummond, CPA, CFA. Congratulations to these individuals for achieving the highest distinction in the investment management profession and proving themselves by dedicating hours of intense study to pass one of the most rigorous series of exams in the financial industry.
