MEET OUR LOCAL STUDENTS

It’s time for our Florida Gulf Coast University Student Spotlight! Our goal is to highlight young women who are ready to make a career in Investment Management.

This month's spotlight is Claire Barghahn. Claire was a double major in Accounting and Finance, with a concentration in Financial Analysis and Management. She just graduated in December, 2023 and is a originally from Traverse City, Michigan. Claire is interested in continued engagement and networking with local professionals in SWFL, especially in her new area of Tampa/St. Petersburg. Why did you choose FGCU and your major?
I chose my major due to the wide variety of opportunities that come from it and the consultative role of the opportunities. FGCU close to my parents who relocated to Ft. Myers, and class size is optimal to interact with teachers and build relationships while learning.

What was your favorite class at FGCU?
Financial Policy with Prof. Zahaby. It involved a lot of guest speakers, learning about their roles and development, and also some debates and discussions about current events.

Where have you interned or worked in your field?
I’m currently interning at Clifton Larsen Allen in a BizOps role, supporting client service. My role is to work on client reporting, such as bookkeeping, year-end statements, balance sheets, etc.

What are your career goals after graduation?
I’m going to continue working for CLA, and will start full time in January as BizOps staff in St. Petersburg. I hope to advance within the firm and learn other aspects of the business through them.

What clubs and/or organizations are you involved in at FGCU?
Last year I was on the club women’s basketball team, and also part of the accounting society.

Give us one "Fun Fact" about yourself.
When I was living in Michigan, I played Division 2 college basketball for Michigan Tech, prior to transferring to FGCU.
