Application Process

All applications (except Student Membership) are first processed by CFA Institute then sent to CFA Society Victoria.  Applications are then reviewed by our Membership Chair and submitted for approval by the Board of Directors.  Approved applicants will receive a notification once their membership is activated. Once approved, Regular and Affiliate member applicants can activate their membership by going online to pay their dues and sign their professional conduct statements.  Student membership dues are payable directly to CFA Society Victoria upon acceptance as a member.  All activated memberships are uploaded into our system and a notification will be emailed to all newly activated members.​ 

Regular Membership

​To become a regular member, applicants must meet all of the criteria listed below:

  1. Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or have equivalent education or work experience.
  2. Have attained one or more of the following:
  • Passing score for the CFA Program Level I Exam, CIPM Program Level II Exam, RBA Netherlands Exam, or the self-administered Standards of Practice Exam.
  • 36 months of professional work experience in investment decision making.
  • Be a current holder of the CFA designation.

      3. Provide 2 professional references, if one is an active regular member of CFA Society Victoria; OR 3 professional references, if none of them is an active regular member of CFA Society Victoria.
      4. Agree to and sign the Professional Conduct Statement, and any additional documentation requested by CFA Institute.

All persons who have been awarded and retain the CFA professional designation are eligible and shall be admitted as regular members of the Society upon satisfactory completion of the application procedures.

ANNUAL DUES:
CFA Institute               USD $275.00
CFA Society Victoria   USD $95.00 

CFA Society Victoria's and CFA Institute's membership year runs from July 1-June 30.  Fees are not prorated.  CFA Institute and Society dues are non-refundable and non-transferable.  For regular and affiliate memberships, CFA Institute collects dues on behalf of CFA Society Victoria.  Student membership dues are paid directly to CFA Society Victoria.

Affiliate Membership 

To become an affiliate member, applicants must meet all of the criteria listed below:
  • ​At the time of application, have attained a minimum of 12 months of acceptable professional work experience​ and passage of the Level I CFA examination.
  • Agree to and sign a Professional Conduct Statement, and any additional documentation requested by CFA Institute.
  • 2 professional references, if one is an active regular member of CFA Society Victoria OR 3 professional references​, if none of them is an active regular member of CFA Society Victoria.
Affiliate members have all of the benefits of regular membership except the right to (i) vote, (ii) hold a board seat, or (iii) be a regular member of CFA Institute.

Student Membership​

Student membership is open to individuals who do not qualify for regular or affiliate membership with CFA Society Victoria and CFA Institute.

Prior to renewal, qualifications are rechecked to ensure that an individual can remain as a student member.  Once an individual qualifies for affiliate or regular membership, student membership cannot be renewed.​

To become a student member, applicants must meet all of the criteria listed below:

  • ​Be enrolled in an accredited institution
  • Agree to, sign and submit CFA Society Victoria Member's Agreement and Professional Conduct Statement

Student members have all of the benefits of regular membership except the right to (i) vote, (ii) hold any office of the Society, or (iii) be a regular member of CFA Institute. Other benefits include:

* A Day in the Life

This is an opportunity for a small group of student members to meet with CFA Charterholders/Board members from different professions over coffee and learn how they achieved their success. 

**Pub Night​

CFA Society Victoria will host 1 pub night (includes 1 free drink and complimentary appetizers) for student members to network.

CFA Society Victoria            CAD $25.00 (reimbursed after attending 1 society event as a student member)
