Climate Is Collective: Pricing and Using Climate Externalities

When:  Feb 15, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM (ET)
Associated with  CFA Society Calgary

A key challenge facing investment managers and their clients in relation to climate change is accurately quantifying and measuring climate externalities in monetary terms. Finance professionals and investors must grapple with the uncertainty and complexity of climate-related interdependencies and how pricing models reflect them, particularly in the long term.  The intangible nature of many impacts also makes them difficult to price. This webinar looks at the unpriced risk that carbon represents in many portfolios, approaches that investors are taking to address that, and the role that carbon markets play in this process.

This is the third in our current Climate is Collective webinar series aimed at closing the gap between specialist climate and sustainability experts on the one hand, and finance professionals who need to understand climate-change impact on company and asset performance on the other.  In this series we look at key information sources, where you access them, and how they are used to support analysis of climate change risks and opportunities.

What will be covered in this webinar?

  • Climate-change externalities and business strategy
  • Corporate disclosure trends and the quality of data
  • Climate risk assessment
  • Carbon pricing
  • Carbon offsetting

Attendees to the live webinar will automatically receive 1 CFA Institute PL Credit in their PL Tracker. Attendees will need to self report other professional learning credits themselves.
