CFA Society of East Tennessee Partners with Hamilton County Schools
The CFA Society East Tennessee has partnered with Hamilton County schools in their effort to enhance the personal finance course offering to meet the State’s Personal Finance high school requirement. Chris Hopkins and Jeanne Murphy, both Charterholders and Society Members, collaborated with Teaching and Learning Leaders Jamie Parris and Bruce Stubblefield from the school district to identify a robust curriculum offering and discuss ways that the Society can augment students’ classroom experience. Leveraging connections with school district personnel, the Director of Tennessee’s Financial Literacy Commission, Bill Parker, and staff at NGPF, they assisted the school in identifying the Next Gen Personal Finance curriculum as the preferred option given not only its content, but the breadth of resources available to teachers to help students engage with these important concepts.
Society members participated in the district’s professional development courses over the summer and will make periodic guest appearances in classrooms throughout the school year to enliven classroom conversations with real-world experience. Two topics on which we have prepared presentations include The Power of Compounding and Your First Career – Navigating the Paperwork. If you would be interested in participating in these classroom opportunities as they arise, please contact Angie Brown, our Society Manager at [email protected].
