Private investments represent a growing portion of investor portfolios. Many have been allocating to private equity, real estate, and infrastructure for years. Private debt has become a rapidly growing portion of investors’ private investment portfolios following the Great Financial Crisis. Join colleagues from Mercer to discuss how the credit markets have evolved, how private debt fits within broader investment portfolios, and how it interacts with other private asset classes. We will discuss the various private debt sub-asset classes, how they impact the risk/return equation, and how investors can efficiently allocate to credit strategies.

Cori Trautvetter, CAIA
Cori Trautvetter is a Partner and serves as co-leader for Mercer’s Not-for-Profit Endowment and Foundation segment. She is located in the St. Louis office and is part of the firm’s Not-for-Profit Investment Committee as well as the Endowment & Foundation and Sustainable Investment Strategic Research Teams. She also leads the US Investments DEI Advisory Committee.
Prior to its acquisition by Mercer in 2018, Cori was a Managing Director at Pavilion Advisory Group Inc. where she provided strategic investment advice to endowments, foundations, defined contribution plans, defined benefits plans, healthcare organizations, and Taft-Hartley funds along with heading up the firm’s Endowment and Foundation Practice. Cori joined Pavilion Advisory Group Inc. in 2000.
Prior to joining Pavilion Advisory Group Inc., Cori served for five years as an Associate Banker at Illini Bank in Springfield, IL. At Illini Bank, her responsibilities included managing consumer loans for numerous clients.
Cori is a member of the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA®) Association. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Eastern Illinois University.
David Scopelliti
David Scopelliti is a recognized leader and investor specializing in the alternative investments, specifically Private Debt & Private Equity with 30 years of experience. He is currently Global Head of Private Debt for Mercer, the world's largest outsourced asset manager with over US$300 billion outsourced assets under management (“OCIO”) and trillions under advisement - Mercer is a subsidiary of Marsh McLennan. David is responsible for a global team that both manages client capital and advises clients on alternative investments.
Prior, David was Chief Executive Officer and board member of Alcentra Capital Corporation (Nasdaq: “ABDC”) an affiliate of Alcentra with over $40 billion in AUM; Alcentra was a subsidiary of BNY Mellon, the world's largest custodian bank and securities services company. At Alcentra he focused on ABDC’s corporate renewal while managing the US private debt & equity investment portfolio. Prior, he was a Partner at GarMark Partners, a leading US private debt & private equity asset manager focused on capital solutions for middle market businesses.
Prior to that, he was appointed by the Connecticut State Treasurer to turnaround and restructure the $37 billion pension plan’s alternative investment program. Under his leadership, the program generated above-market performance, improved governance and expanded its investment scope. He was also elected Vice Chairman of the board of the Institutional Limited Partners Association (“ILPA”), setting the foundation for ILPA today.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Scopelliti led direct private debt and private equity co-investments at ING Capital with a focus on transportation, homeland security, defense & aerospace, consumer and environmental services.
He has served on multiple public and private company boards in the Financial Services, FinTech, Media and Transportation industries. He has also served as an Operating Partner to several private equity firms. David charitable work has included serving on the board of Fairfield College Preparatory School and serving a mentor to various young professionals. He is also a member of National Association of Corporate Directors. Mr. Scopelliti earned his BBA in Finance and Accounting from Pace University’s Lubin School of Business.
