CFA Society Pakistan conducted an in-person Seminar on โ๐๐๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐๐ฒ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐/๐๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐ข๐๐ฌโ with Mr. Sajid Akram, DG Tariff, NEPRA, and Mr. Muhammad Mubashar Jalal, Director Tariff, NEPRA, on 16 August 2023 in Karachi. NEPRA (National Electric and Power Regulatory Authority) is the designated body responsible for exclusively regulate the provision of electric power services in Pakistan.
The speakers were both senior NEPRA officials with extensive hands-on experience in determining tariffs for the entire electricity supply chain.ย The speakers provided an in-depth explanation of the applicable regulatory regime and its evolution, tariff determination process, components of consumer end tariffs, annual rebasing, quarterly adjustments, FCAs, direct and cross subsidies, surcharges and taxation, wheeling charges, the likely impact of sector deregulation, and the anatomy of the circular debt problem.
We received an overwhelming response from the finance industry, attracting participation of professionals from banking, insurance, asset management and auditing categories. Representatives of electricity distribution, and oil & gas exploration companies (as well as corporates) also attended. We were pleased to welcome over 80 professionals and industry leaders, making this seminar a remarkable success.
