Life expectancy is increasing, fertility is falling, and the population is rapidly aging throughout the world. Long-term care for the elderly is a major economic challenge that will continue to grow in the coming decades. How is our money currently being spent in the U.S., and what can we learn from the experience of other countries? Kathleen McGarry is Professor of Economics at UCLA and a Faculty Research Fellow with the National Bureau of Economic Research.
