(St Louis, MO) – February 4, 2025: CFA Society St. Louis (CFA STL) has announced the date and location of its upcoming annual CFA Research Challenge competition for bi-state university students majoring in Finance, Business and Economics. The Edward Jones headquarters on Manchester Road will be the location of the Feb 21 event from 1pm – 4pm and the congratulatory happy hour from 4pm – 6pm. All bi-state finance, corporate banking and investment management professionals are invited to attend this event. Attendees do not need to be CFA charterholders to attend.
Each year, participating Eastern Missouri universities assemble teams of five students and assign them to analyze a publicly-traded company. Students then prepare a written report on their assigned company recommending whether to buy, sell or hold the stock. Teams present their findings to a panel of industry experts, and winners are selected based on the students’ knowledge and equity analysis.
Since the 2024-25 CFA University Research Challenge competition kicked off last October, nine university teams have been analyzing Core & Main, a distributor of water, sewer and fire protection products, headquartered in St. Louis.
The teams represent Lindenwood University, Maryville University, Millikin University, Saint Louis University, Southern Illinois University – Carbondale, Truman State University, University of Illinois – Urbana/Champaign, University of Missouri – St. Louis and Washington University in St. Louis.
Students receive support in preparation for the competition from a variety of industry professionals, university faculty and CFA Society St. Louis members.
The CFA Research Challenge is conducted each year by the CFA Institute, a global, nonprofit professional organization that provides investment professionals with finance education and promotes standards in ethics. CFA Institute conducts the regional, national and global CFA Research Challenge competitions, which involve more than 5,000 students and 900 universities from around the world. In addition to the practical experience in equity research students receive from the competition, the events are a great opportunity for students to network with industry professionals and peers from other universities.
The winning team will advance to the regional round, with a chance to move on to the global final in New York City in May.
