CFAMN Volunteer Opportunities

Each year we see over 70 society volunteers for CFAMN in a wide variety of ways. One of the best ways to optimize your membership with CFA Society Minnesota is to get involved on a Society initiative or committee. Volunteering heightens your visibility and puts you in direct contact with other professionals in the industry. Whether you are a university student, CFA Candidate, or CFA Charterholder, there are casual, enjoyable ways to get involved in CFAMN and meet other members.

Blog Writer

Write original content or commentary for our Freezing Assets blog. Or attend a Society event and write an event recap for the blog. See past blogs for examples. This opportunity is applicable to CFA Charterholders, candidates, and students.

Program Committee Member

The Programs Committee is the primary driver of educational and professional development content for the Society. We work year-round to understand industry trends, identify the curiosities of our members, and present cutting-edge speakers and concepts to our investment community.

Business & Financial Management Committee Member

The Business & Finance Committee is looking for members interested in or has relevant accounting and finance experience. The Committee is responsible for overseeing the financial affairs of the Society.

To get started as a volunteer:

  1. Contact Us: Please attach your resume for reference.
  2. Interview: Schedule a time to meet with Society Staff to learn more about the organization and discuss what committee or project might be a good fit for your interests.

Education Committee Member

The Education Committee facilitates learning opportunities for our region’s CFA candidates and university students (finance majors and beyond)! Its volunteers make presentations about the CFA Program to local universities, oversee the Society’s exam prep offerings and scholarship programs, manage the Society’s CFA Institute Research Challenge, and provide informal mentor opportunities (take intern/student meetings, host university company visits, etc.)

Career Development Committee Member

The Career Development Committee provides valuable career-building events and resources for finance/investment students, CFA Candidates, Society members, and investment professionals. The focus of career development is soft skills-focused programming such as career development, speaking, writing, networking, and more!

Advocacy Committee Member

The Advocacy/Career Development Committee utilizes a project-based approach to providing programming and other engagement opportunities for members and the broader community that elevate our local brand awareness and enhance the industry. With that in mind, we are looking for individuals who are interested in supporting our advocacy committee efforts through our ongoing programming and/or any new ideas that might be percolating.

Membership Committee Member

The Membership Committee plays a crucial role in the continued success and relevancy of our professional association. We work year-round to connect with current and potential members, study the demographics of our 1400 members, and gather feedback and suggestions for ways to make the organization more valuable. Our projects and initiatives mark the milestones of each CFA Charterholder's career.

Freezing Assets Editor

We’re looking for a passionate writer and reader interested in overseeing content for the Society blog – Freezing Assets. Because this is a new opportunity, the ideas below are what this could entail; if you’re interested, please send us a note and we can chat further. This could be a multi-person project.

  • Creating/managing an annual calendar of content
  • Recruiting new contributors to the blog
  • Coordinating/reviewing pieces with contributors and Society staff
  • Contributing original blog pieces
  • Determining the direction and focus of this blog

Research Challenge

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual, global competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. Students work in teams to research and analyze a publicly-traded company and then write a research report on their assigned company with a buy, sell, or hold recommendation.

We're always looking for industry professionals to fill these roles:

  • Industry Mentor: hands-on work with university students (Sep-Dec; 6 hours max)
  • Report Grader: review and grade student research reports (Two weeks in January)
  • Presentation Judge: listen to and critique student stock recommendations (One day in February; 3 hours)

While preferred, being a Charterholder is not required.
