THE POSITION
CFA Society South Africa Chief Executive Officer

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for the overall management of the CFA Society office, including:

  • Implementing the strategic plan set forth by the Board of Directors.

  • Supporting governance initiatives.

  • Managing staff.

  • Managing relationships with members, volunteers, and external constituencies (CFA Institute, external stakeholders, sponsors).

The CEO reports to and is accountable to the Board of Directors, who oversee goals, objectives, and compensation for the role.

Reporting Line:

  • Reports to: Board of Directors

  • Number of Direct Reports: 3

Key Internal & External Relationships:

  • President – CFA Society South Africa

  • EMEA Society Relations Manager – CFA Institute

  • EMEA Presidents Council Representative – CFA Institute

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time role.

  • Requires energy and dedication to achieve goals while maintaining a positive attitude.

  • Domestic and international travel required (up to 10% of the time).


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field (required).

  • Advanced degree such as MBA or relevant Master’s degree (preferred).

  • CFA designation (desired but not essential).

Role Summary:

  • Advise on and execute the strategic plan outlined by the Board.

  • Support and contribute to the effective governance of the Society.

  • Nurture and grow relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Act as the public spokesperson and custodian of the Society.

  • Establish an effective fundraising plan targeting strategic donors.

  • Create new training opportunities to serve the investment industry.

  • Maintain prudent financial management of the Society’s assets.

  • Oversee regular programs and events while exploring new initiatives.

  • Provide effective leadership to internal staff.

Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in financial services and/or investment management industry.

  • Minimum 2 years in a senior leadership role, ideally in managing a not-for-profit organisation or a significant segment thereof; alternatively, a senior management position in a for-profit organisation.

  • Host thought leadership events convening industry leaders and participants.

  • Be the face of the Society with a strong media presence.

  • Secure sustainable funding through sponsorships and revenue generation.

  • Strengthen relationships with universities, regulators, employers, media, and EMEA Societies.

  • Lead internal staff effectively to foster a collegial work environment.

  • Manage Society affairs in compliance with laws and within the approved budget.
